The main telescope is a Meade 0.4m (16") aperture with Advanced Coma Free (ACF) optics. The optical tube assembly (OTA) is carried by a Mathis Instruments MI-600 hybrid fork mount (MI-500 base/MI-750 forks). The mount weighs nearly 180 kg (400 lbs). A Meade 80mm (3") refractor with apochromatic (APO) optics rides "piggy-back" on the main telescope. While some images are obtained with the APO, it is used primarily as a guide telescope. A "generic" 80mm (3") achromatic refractor also rides "piggy-back" and is used as a giant finderscope.
